How to Make a Flax Egg
The Essential Vegan
Use this super-simple blend in place of an egg to open up a world of baking for vegans and anyone with egg allergies.
Prep Time 2 minutes mins
Resting Time 10 minutes mins
Total Time 12 minutes mins
- 2½ tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
Mix the ground flaxseed and water in a small bowl.
Let the mixture rest for 10 minutes at room temperature until it thickens and congeals.
Use as a 1:1 substitute for an egg in baking recipes.
- If your baking recipe calls for a flax egg, mix the flaxseed and water as the first step. Then, measure the other ingredients while the flax egg is thickening. By the time you are done measuring the other ingredients, the flax egg should be the right consistency to mix in.
- Store ground flaxseed in an airtight container in a cool, dark pantry or in the fridge.
